The SAFLIFT cask/canister system is designed to safely transport loaded transfer casks and canisters with the SAFLIFT strongback lower block from the spent fuel pool area to the canister transfer area. Once the tranfer cask and canister have been placed on top of the concrete cask, the SAFLIFT system provides seismic stability to the stacked casks by supporting the load with the SAFLIFT strongback/lower block. This eliminates the problems and costs associated with building based tie-down of stacked casks. The SAFLIFT has the unique capability to remotely lower the canister (using the canister hoist and grab) from the transfer cask to the concrete cask while the strongback/lower block provides seismic stability. All these tasks are completed using our ULTRASAF single failure-
proof lifting system consistent with the requirements contained in NUREG 0554 and 0612.
Pictured below is a Helical Gear Motor. A Helical Gear Motor has the teeth cut at an angle to the center line of the gear. This kind of gear is useful because there is no chance of intermittent tooth-to-tooth operation since there are at least two teeth engaged at any time. Also helical gears tend to operate quieter than straight cut gears. Among other places, this type of motor is used in Trolley and Bridge Drives.

A trolley (pictured below) is a wheeled mechanism from which a hoist is suspended to provide horizontal motion of the hoist along a beam/bridge rail.
Pictured below is a highly specialized under-slung carriage, supported by a double girder trolley. The geared “turn-table bearing” permits a 360 degree rotation of the carriage. In its final configuration, it will support four 10-ton monorail hoists, for a total capacity of 40 tons.

Pictured below is a Grapple made of stainless steel specifically for the nuclear industry. This grapple will be used to move canisters that hold low and high level nuclear waste (sometimes called “spent fuel”) to transport casks to and from nuclear storage waste facilities. Stainless steel is the material of choice when moving or storing nuclear waste, because of its corrosion-resistant properties.
